What AI Character Chat Changes
A general assistant is designed to help with many unrelated tasks. An AI character is designed around a particular identity and situation. Its profile gives the model a role to play, while the opening message gives you a scene, relationship, or question to continue.
That difference changes the feel of the exchange. Instead of asking a neutral tool for an answer, you might reply to a detective guarding a secret, a fantasy guide offering a dangerous route, or a companion checking in after a difficult day.
The profile provides direction, not a guarantee. Generated replies can vary, miss a detail, or drift away from the intended voice. Treat in-character statements as part of the fictional interaction, not as authoritative advice about the real world.
Browse an Existing Character or Create Your Own?
Browsing is the fastest route. The character is already configured, the opening message is ready, and you can decide whether the scenario interests you before writing anything. It is a good fit when you want to explore different personalities, start a casual roleplay, or see what kinds of openings work.
Creating your own character is better when the idea depends on details you want to control. You might have an original setting, a specific relationship dynamic, or a character voice that is not represented in the public catalogue.
Use this quick rule:
- Browse when speed and discovery matter most.
- Create when the role, setting, or opening needs to be yours.
- Start by browsing when you are unsure. A few conversations will show you which character traits and openings you want to recreate—or avoid.
Public characters can be discovered by other people after admin approval. Private characters are visible only to their creator by default. Visibility controls access to the character; it is separate from how conversation data is stored and processed.
Start an AI Character Chat on WSUP AI
Starting with an existing character takes three steps:
- Browse the WSUP AI character catalogue and choose a persona whose description and category fit the interaction you want.
- Read the character's opening message. It establishes the immediate setting and usually gives you a detail, action, or question to answer.
- Reply to that opening rather than testing the character with an unrelated request.
If the scene begins in a train station with a sealed letter, respond to the letter, the station, or the tension around it. That gives the next reply useful context. A generic “hello” can work, but a response tied to the opening gives the character more to build on.

Create a Character When You Need More Control
The Create AI Character flow on WSUP AI has two stages: Profile and Image Avatar.
In the Profile stage, you provide the character's name and gender, choose public or private visibility, select the filtered or unfiltered chat setting, and assign a category. The description explains who the character is. Optional fields can establish the opening message and background.
Focus on details that can affect a reply:
- Role: who the character is in the scene.
- Relationship: how the character sees the person chatting with them.
- Motivation: what the character currently wants.
- Voice: how they tend to speak.
- Opening: what is happening when the conversation begins.
“A mysterious archivist” gives the model very little direction. “A guarded archivist who distrusts anyone asking about the sealed west wing” creates a role, attitude, and source of tension.
The Image Avatar stage gives the character a visual identity. After saving, WSUP AI redirects you to the new character page so you can continue from its opening. Public characters require admin approval before everyone can use them; private characters remain visible only to their creator by default.

What Shapes the Next Reply
Each generated reply is influenced by several pieces of context:
- The character description and optional background
- Attached character instructions
- The opening scene
- Your latest message
- Recent messages from the conversation
The profile establishes the identity, while recent messages establish what is happening now. If an important detail should keep affecting the scene, state it clearly and reinforce it through the conversation instead of burying it inside decorative backstory.
When a reply does not fit, regenerate it or clarify the specific trait or scene detail that should guide the next attempt. Regeneration produces another version of the current moment; it does not make the system perfectly deterministic.
Add Audio or Images Only When They Help
Text is the core conversation. Audio and images are optional additions for moments where another medium adds something useful.

A qualifying image request can return a text reply with an image. Image generation is request-led, model-led, and subject to availability and quota. If image generation fails, the text reply can still remain available.
Use media for a concrete purpose: hearing the delivery of an important line, seeing the room the character just entered, or revealing an object that matters to the scene. If the conversation is already working as text, it does not need decoration.
Access, Privacy, and Character Visibility
The first reply can be started without a separate signup, but WSUP AI uses Firebase anonymous authentication to keep the correct conversation attached to the correct visitor. Conversation content is stored with that Firebase identity so a character thread can continue, and administrators may review recent conversations to operate and improve the service.
Public and private character settings control who can discover or use the character. They do not mean that the accompanying chat is unlogged, end-to-end encrypted, or invisible to the service.
